Popcorn Pumpkin Balls

These are such a cute way to get the kids involved and have them enjoy a Halloween treat that isn’t just a bunch of candy bars.
Use your Holstein Popcorn maker to pop fresh popcorn and a few extra ingredients you can pick up at the supermarket and make yourselves a full blown pumpkin patch of popcorn fun.
Watch us make them in our Holstein Kitchen Episode or scroll down for step by step instructions.

1. Gather Your Ingredients

–  Popcorn kernels
–  1/2 cup of melted butter
–  1 box of orange jello
–  1/4 cup of corn syrup
–  1/4 tbsp of baking soda
–  Tootsie rolls
–  Green taffy (we used air heads)
Pop a full bowl of fresh popcorn using your Holstein Popcorn Maker and place that to the side. In a small bowl whisk together your butter, jello, syrupm and baking soda. Place the orange mixture in the microwave, make sure to cover it with a paper towel or something so it doesn’t splatter your microwave, and heat up until boiling.

2. Pour & Mix

Take your hot orange syrup and pour it over the popcorn. It is going to be very hot so we suggest using a spatula to mix it in with your popcorn. You want the orange syrup to cover all your popcorn. It is your glue for the popcorn pumpkin balls.
Tip: while the gooey popcorn cools so you can handle it, cut your taffy into leaves and unwrap your tootsie rolls.

3. Roll & Decorate

Before letting the syrup completely cool down, make small palm sized popcorn balls. Once the syrup cools all the way it will harden and you will not be able to decorate your pumpkins.
Place a totsie roll and a leaf on each of the balls to complete your Popcorn Pumpkins!
